Where are you from?

Buenos Aires

How long have you been in London for?

I came here in November for a week, then I went to Berlin for some work, and now I’m back here for one more week before heading home.

Tell me about how you got into photography?

I started studying engineering because of my family’s business but I soon realised I wanted to be a professional photographer, and started doing my own photo shoots. That’s how I moved into fashion.

Describe your work?

I generally shoot male fashion, but I like portrait photography too.

Who inspires you?

I think I get inspired from life, my friends, and visiting new cities

What is your favourite city?

Right now I really like London, Paris and Berlin. I’d like to move over to Europe but being Argentinian, it’s not so easy.

How do you go about casting a model for a shoot?

I would say I look for an attitude in a model, it’s important to be inspired by your subject.

Are there any other aspects of fashion that you’d like to get into?

Yes, I like directing too. I also like design, but I’m not able to design anything myself!

How do you think photography has changed since you started out?

It’s always changing, everything is moving into video now. I’ve started doing films, I find it interesting that it is not just a picture, but a portrait of movement.

How do you think the two compare?

Well they are very different. In a picture you have to capture one second and reflect everything you want in to that moment, and with film you are able to capture many pictures. They are not the same at all.

How do you go about deciding on a story for a shoot?

I think it comes from living, I get inspiration from everyday life then turn that into a story.

Ben Waters is the boy that has just exploded onto the fashion scene. His first season in Paris saw him open Comme Des Garcons and Kolor, as well as walking for Lanvin, Dries Van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester. The Central Saint Martins student looks set to become big both on and off the catwalk. Watch this space.

Who was your favourite designer to walk for?

I would say Comme Des Garcons. I was really excited to open that show, and we did four looks each as she didn’t chose many people. It really interests me the way Rei Kauakubo works. This collection she’s just done is very obscure, like overly feminine. It’s not so much about looking cool and chic, the clothes are more like art pieces.

What is your top fashion week tip?

Just to take everything as it comes.

What was on your playlist and reading list for the week?

I only listened to one album the whole time, I don’t know how cool it is but is was Roisin murphy’s Overpowered album. It’s very poppy which isn’t always what I listen to but it’s got something sexy about it, something to keep you going. I’m reading Evelyn Waugh at the moment, he writes about the high society of the 1920s-30s.

Did you get to experience any local cuisine whilst away?

No! Not at all, I really didn’t have the time. But I did find one thing that was amazing that I didn’t even know existed. I love anything with almonds in it, and I went into this shop and they had almond pain au chocolat’s, they were amazing!

How do you think being able to participate in fashion week will affect your own work?

One of the reasons I chose women’s wear was that I didn’t want to be too influenced by shows I watched, I wanted to separate clothes I like to my design work, and to not allow myself to be influenced too much by the shows. So it doesn’t directly influence my work, but it’s nice to wear clothes that make you feel great, it’s just unfortunate you only get to wear them for 20 minutes!

How would you describe your style?

Ann Demeulemeester

I mostly wear black. What always gets me to spend too much money is when something fits really well and flatters you. That’s the most important thing.

Who is your favourite designer?

I really like Jil Sander. They are all about cut, and keep it simple whilst always creating something new. For example they’ll make a whole collection out of black leather, it was really simple but with a twist.

So now you’re back in London, what’s your plan?

I’m just going to be studying, and then maybe do some shoots that come along.

What an amazing first Fashion Week! How did you find it?

Well the casting week was pretty crazy. That was in Milan, and it was a good experience because you learn to get around quickly. I found it all exciting because I’m studying fashion design at St. Martins so most of the designers, and it was great not just to be walking but to be involved with the whole thing.

Ever wonder how celebrities and supermodels get those endlessly lean and toned figures? Well model and personal trainer Nathalie Bomgren is the secret weapon behind the beauty. Working alongside other fitness gurus at Bodyism, she trains an enviable list of A-list clients, helping them to perfect and maintain long, lean, healthy bodies. We caught up with her to find out more...

Models 1: How did you get into modelling?

Nathalie Bomgren: I first started modelling part time in Sweden while I was in school, and I started travelling to London in the summer holidays to work with Models 1. This was mainly to build up my book slowly to start my career. When I was 18 moved to London, and Models 1 helped me to get in touch with other agencies across the world, so eventually I was spending 4-6 months of the year travelling.

Has sport always been a big part of your life?

Yes, I was a ballet dancer when I was younger, and then started to do kick boxing. I’ve always loved to train.

What made you move into personal training?

My lovely booker Fraser encouraged me to start doing personal training. I was training a lot myself and also helped some of my friends starting out at the gym. It has always been a passion of mine to help people to get fitter, with the help of both exercising and nutritional advice. It’s the best feeling when people are getting great results.

How do you balance both your modelling and fitness careers?

Both Bodyism and Models 1 are very understanding that I do both modelling and personal training. I love both my jobs and it is great that they go so well together.

There are increasingly more collaborations between sports brands and designers. Does this have an effect on your style while training?

When I train it is not that important which designer has made my clothes. It is more important that the clothes are flattering for my body type, that the material they are made from breathes and is good quality. My favourite brand for sports gear is Casall, who I also model for.

How do you like to dress of duty?

When I’m not working I like to dress up. I’m always in trainers and exercise clothes at work, so when I go out for dinner I like to wear clothes that make me feel womanly. My absolute favourite designer is Emilia Wickstead, who makes the most beautiful made-to-measure dresses. You can pick any colour and fabric you want and she makes the dress to fit your figure perfectly.

Who are your celebrity clients?

Some of the celebs that I train include Mollie King from The Saturday’s, David Gandy, Hugh Grant and the lovely Models 1 model Roos Van Montfort. It is quite cool that out of the total 12 trainers that work at Bodyism, 4 of us have been or are models at Models 1.

What is your favourite form of exercise?

I love a combination of ballet, yoga and trx. With that combination and the right nutrition you’ll for sure get a long athletic body. It is important, for models in particular, not to get bulky, just to tone up and improve strength.

Do you also advise clients on diet and nutrition?

Yes, training and nutrition really goes hand in hand. I look in to all aspects of my client’s life, and also provide advice about sleep, stress levels and what supplement’s they should take.

Describe a typical weekday to me?

I normally get up around 6.30am

I grab a handful of almonds and drink 2 glasses of water and coffee

Go out for an hour of interval training in the park

I then eat a breakfast of eggs or turkey with a whole red pepper. 2 more glasses of water

I train 3-4 clients at Bodyism, and then work at the office

On my lunch break I do yoga and afterwards I’ll grab a chicken and avocado salad. 2 more glasses of water.

I train a couple more clients and meet potential new clients for consultations.

I go home and cook dinner, normally salmon or a chicken dish. 2 more glasses of water

I drink Bodyism’s Body Serenity to relax, so I fall asleep like a baby. I preferably need 9 hours sleep.

Tell me about Bodyism’s exercise band?

The band tube walking is an amazing exercise to get the perfect butt, like a non-surgical butt lift. It switches on the gluteus medius which is the muscle that lifts the bum up, and is also great warm up to do before exercising as it helps to stabilise the knee, hips and ankle joints.

These pants are from Patrizia Pepe, I got them from New York. This sweater is from Cos and so is my jacket. My bag is Alexander Wang, my shoes are from a Swedish brand and my scarf is Givenchy. My rings are a random old selection. I got one of them from a market in Barcelona.

I don't like to wear very girly clothes, I like simple straight and dark clothes. I like to look elegant.

Can you give us some smart shopping advice?

I think everybody should wear what they feel good in. It doesn't matter how it looks in other people's eyes, you shouldn't wear something you don't really want to wear, just because it's in fashion.

I try to wear clothes that suit my body shape. I don't like wearing tops that cut off at the shoulder because I've got quite broad shoulders.

It's not exactly a purchase, but I found a leather jacket at a festival that I wear all the time.

I went to an all-girls school and we used to back-comb our hair. It looked ridiculous because i had really thick hair.

Justin Anderson is the film maker that has rapidly conquered the fashion world.. His Twin Parallel film for Jayne Pierson won an award for best styling at A Shaded View of Fashion Film Festival in Paris this month, as well as featuring on Vogue Italia. His award-winning fashion film Chore, for (lingerie label) Damaris received 48, 000 hits on You-tube following its release on Vogue.com. A Poem for A, for Roksanda Ilincic was commissioned by the Milan Vogue Italia exhibition, and he has made films for Showstudio's Future Tense Festival including House of Flora and a trilogy for Armani that premiered on Vogue.it. Top this off with a Young Director Award nomination at Cannes, a commercial for i newspaper, a film for Armani, and Fleurs du Mal for Agent Provocateur, it seems there is no stopping Justin Anderson. And we have a feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg. We caught up with him to find out more..

How did you get involved in film making, is it something you’ve always wanted to go into?

I went to The Slade school of Fine Art and studied painting for years. I then moved into making fairly conceptual videos- I chewed gum live on TV for 5 mins as part of a performance about meaningless communication….. I made it on a Dutch cable channel in the 90’s about the same time Big Brother was being conceived, another Dutch company called Endemol, who have been filling our lives with meaningless TV ever since.

How did you move into directing fashion film?

I worked in advertising for a bit then decided to go back to painting and got a studio share with an old friend who is fashion designer. Showstudio asked her label House of Flora to make a film so we made a film called dress number 1. It got picked up by Diane Pernet, did very well, so we made another and that got on Vogue Italia. And so on…

Agent Pravocateur, Fleurs Du Mal

The industry is moving forward rapidly. What is the biggest change in your opinion?

Volume is obviously the main thing- the technology has made it possible to not only make films but to steam them hi-res on all kinds of different devices. There is also a huge appetite for new content -as all the new content sites and online magazines need filling with original content. The only thing which will be interesting is this massive volume has been underpinned by loads of people working for free. It will be interesting to see how long this ‘good will’ lasts because eventually people have to get paid. Fashion is a multi/million dollar industry and I think the fashion film has given it some kind of boost, so I guess we all hope this boost will eventually give rise to revenue that finds its way back in.

When casting models for a film, what do you look for?

Casting is hugely important to me as it is the life force of the film. Before I cast I often have an idea of the kind of look I am after but I shoot every casting and I am often surprised by the result- so just going by still shots can be very deceptive. The other thing I do in casting is try, in a very short amount of time work out- is this person going to be good to work with? I think modelling is very tough job, there is no training and the demands are sometimes quite intense so it is of huge importance to see whether this person will be able work extremely hard and still look exactly how you need then too. The Movie camera shoots 24 frames per second and you can’t retouch as much in stills so they need to look fresh take after take after take- and that is tough.

How do you keep up with the ever-developing trends and technologies?

I read, I think and I watch… constantly.

Who/what inspires you?

My DNA is still the art school kid- I look at a lot of Art. Probably the purest form of expression.

I am also playing catch up on the great movies of the past. I didn’t study film so there is a lot to learn for me. Love 1970’s French films, they are sexy, funny and very stylish.

You have a very distinctive style. How do come up with the concept and story board for a film?

I always start by making drawings; I still carry a sketch book and draw sitting on the tube, waiting for a meeting to start. Trying to find a concept for a film can drive me (and those around me) nuts, I do a lot of reading and research and until I come up with core idea I am absolutely no fun to be around.

Who do you think has had a major influence on fashion and film as we see it today?

Maya Derens’ Meshes of the Afternoon- bit to many fashion films of girls staring out of windows in a dreamy way… we are all guilty of it. Time to move on!

What advice would you give to young creatives starting out?

Just never stop. Everyone I know who has been successful has just kept at it and at it and at it.

What should we be looking out for from you in 2012?

I have few projects bubbling away that are very exciting- one with Vogue Italia and another with a hotel in Sweden. I am very interested in telling stories, my last film for Agent Provocateur was a much stronger narrative and it interests me to see if I can tell stories using a very strong visual language.

Would you consider moving into directing feature films?

Absolutely, a feature with Muccia Prada would be my dream project.

Who would be your ultimate dinner date?

A double date with my wife, David Walliams and his Mrs..Lara Stone. He is as funny as she is beautiful and I think you need both.
